Welcome to the world of options and confusion! While Smartpak products are of high quality, the complexity of shopping for specific horses makes it a difficult and frustrating experience. While they have a fairly cool wizard to narrow down the options for your specific horse, it is still a very cumbersome selection process. To give you a specific example, just under Joint Care, there are over a 100 products to select, making it more of a market than a brand.

Read the review below to learn more about Smartpak products.

Price

Smartpak supplements (their own brand supplements, not the ones they retail for other brands) can range from $15 to $500, depending on the supply period and dosage. That said, if you go through their wizard to select supplements specific to your horse, it seems to always provide 3 options based on your budget. These options seems to range from $50 monthly (for a completely healthy horse) to $250. While we are sure their intentions are not to confuse their customers, its hard to navigate through their page without being overwhelmed at the options and overlap in product benefits.

Below you will find a summary of their brand, since listing every product seems to be impossible!.

Smart Supplements & Smartpaks

SmartPak has 277 different options of supplements that are included in their "smart-paks". These are all categorized in a plethora of categories that is supposed to help horse owners narrow things down. These are the categories:

  • SmartSupplements
  • ColiCare
  • Calming & Behavior
  • Comfort
  • Dewormer
  • Electrolytes
  • Energy
  • Health & Wellness
  • Hoof
  • Insect Control
  • Joint
  • Metabolic
  • Multi-Purpose
  • Respiratory
  • Senior
  • Skin & Coat
  • Vitamins & Minerals
  • New Supplements
  • Supplements by Brand
  • Feed & Ration Balancers
  • Digestion, Ulcer & Gastric Health
  • Weight Gain & Muscle

When you go through the 9 step wizard, you are asked several questions per step, geared to help narrow down the options to a specific horse. That said, many of these questions are highly subjective, making it difficult to get a consistent result between different people evaluating the same horse.

This all said, we did acquire a SmartPak for one of our performance horses that is young and very healthy. The recommended results for the highest budget were as follows:

As you can see, the results provide a series of supplements that overlap with each other. One would expect that a multi-vitamin would greatly help with skin and coats, and even with joint support, but these are all broken down into different elements making it more expensive for performance horse owners to afford on a regular basis.

Final Summary

In summary, SmartPak provides a both their own brand of horse supplements as well as a marketplace of other less known brands. Their branded supplements seems to be of good quality, but the hundreds of options make it extremely complicated to shop, specially if you have multiple horses at different stages and with different needs.
